Generational curses

Generational curses

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.” [Genesis 8:4‭-‬5 KJV]

At the early stages of my Christian life I heard preaching regarding curses – especially generational curses. In the Old Testament the Bible spoke of curses that follow us from generation to generation. Through no direct fault of our own, we carry the burden of the recompense for the ill actions of our forebears. These remain and work in our lives, eventually transferring to our children and their children. Until this is broken it will continue unabated.

In Noah’s days when the earth was deluged with the flood, it destroyed all flesh from off the earth, except those in the ark. The rains stopped after many days, the waters remained on the earth for many more months after that. Eventually a dove (a bird that symbolises peace, or reconciliation) announced the end of the curse of the flood. The waters abated and the ark settled down on Mount Ararat.

Ararat means ‘the curse reversed!’ In place of the curse on the whole earth that destroyed all flesh, God set a rainbow ? across the sky to assure us that never again would such a universal curse have sway over His creation. In its place God promised that, ‘While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.’ (Gen 8:22)

Many generation of souls were destroyed by the flood, just as a curse from generations before us have destroyed the souls of our predecessors in our bloodline because of their ignorance. It is time for this to stop with the knowledge we have as Christ followers, that Jesus Christ has put an end to the curse once and for all. Unfortunately, we may have this knowledge and yet live under the curse because we do nothing about it – just like our forefathers! Today, don’t wait. Declare your freedom from the generational curse that has dogged past generations and has arrived at your door. Denounce it in the name of Jesus. Let the crimson blood of His sacrifice cleanse your bloodline going forward. In Christ we’re a new creation, so the buck stops here!

Prayer of Declaration of Freedom

In the name of Jesus Christ, the living Son of God, I declare and announce that the generational curse from the past that has followed my forebears through the generations stops here. Jesus Christ has revealed His truth that in Him I’m a new creation. The old has passed. Behold I’m living in freedom because I believe His truth, and His truth has set me free! From henceforth, me and my children, and my children’s children, to the third and fourth generation, even until Christ returns, are free from all generational curses that has been running through our bloodline, in Jesus mighty and powerful name… amen and amen!!!
